Lighter than air initiative
The Lighter Than Air Initiative is committed to promoting lighter-than-air technology. The focus is particularly on applications in the transport of loads and people and on the use of lighter-than-air aircraft as carriers for observation and measuring equipment or as advertising media.
The association follows international developments in this field, represents interests and supports companies and institutions involved in this technology. A particular concern is also the maintenance and management of an extensive media archive on lighter-than-air technology. This also includes the complete archive of the former CargoLifter
AG and its successor companies, for which the organisation grants exploitation rights.
The origins of the association date back to 2003, when it was founded under the name Initiative Zukunft in Brand e.V. (Initiative Future in Brand). The reason for this was the insolvency of CargoLifter AG, which had driven the construction of a large transport airship between 1995 and 2002. The initiative followed the insolvency proceedings critically for two decades and stood up for the interests of
shareholders and creditors. Among other things, it was able to achieve a significant reduction in the insolvency administrator's remuneration.
Today, the association's work is helping to preserve lighter-than-air technology, develop it further and make it accessible to the general public.
